Come Sail Away

August 13, 2009

I was all prepared to write a (hopefully) helpful post about my body type, the problematic areas and some tricks I’ve learned to help camo those said areas when all of sudden an emergency developed. I need help y’all, and I need it fast. And yes I just used the word “y’all.” That should tell you a little about my state of mind right now.

We just got invited to go sailing Sunday. I should preface this by saying there’s almost nothing I’d rather be doing than chillin’ on a boat on a body of water, anytime, anywhere. And this particular body of water, Lake Murray, happens to be one of my favorites, ever. My first grown-up house was on the shores of this lake. I got married in Brian’s dad’s back yard which also happens to be on the shores of this lake. I love this lake lots. And while I’ve been on all sorts of different boats, I’ve never been on a sail boat and I’m darn excited about it.

I’m sure you’ve already guessed what the problem is, right?

Dealing with Dog Days

August 11, 2009

I was trying to think of another place I could bitch and moan about the weather since I’d already used up the avenues that are Twitter, Facebook, my blog and even an email to a local weatherman. Then I remembered, “Ah! The weather is also effing up my energy levels and exercise routine – perfect!”

I don’t know if I’ve always been this intolerant of both hot AND cold weather, but it must be an absolute joy for Brian. He watches me obsess over the thermostat and once incredulously stated I must have like a three degree window of comfort, period. I think he’s right. And whether it’s from getting older, the weight I’ve put on over the last few years, my thyroid issue or just another neurosis of mine, it’s pretty damn annoying -even to me.

Weird Tan Lines?

July 13, 2009

So…

You want to exercise outside in the sun?

Want some advice?

1.   If you want to avoid odd tan lines, consider sandals SOMETIMES.   I have a thing about seeing feet, mine included, my feet never see the light of the sun.

2.   If you are going to consider doing many years of running (and a few years of marching) make sure you are prepared to have some feet that have seen better days.

Check out these ugly feet and weird tan lines pointed out to me this evening by my daughter.  This is not something from this weekend even…my skin is permanently discolored at this point (and a couple of other places that will remain hidden from view.)
